- On Tuesday, August 19 during the nighttime/overnight hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Big Carlos Pass Bridge will close intermittently to vehicles to allow crews to set bridge beams, connecting the new bridge to Estero Island. The contractor expects multiple closures during this time, lasting approximately 30 minutes each.Motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to seek alternative routes and avoid the area when possible. If required due to weather, the closure will be rescheduled to 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20.
- Boaters should expect brief stoppages in the channel as crews are painting bridge piers. The channel will remain open, but please anticipate delays when traveling through the channel.
- The east entrance of Islands End is closed for crews to work on the roadway. Access will be maintained for the west entrance.
- Motorists should continue to expect intermittent daytime lane closures with flagging for crews to perform overhead bridge work.
The contractor is scheduled to continue setting bridge deck for the new bridge.
Suppliers are delivering concrete to the project during times that are favorable for successful pours and within permit requirements.
Pedestrians should follow signs to use the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge.
Crews will continue performing earthwork and drainage work throughout the project.
Trolley stops are available at the south entrance to Black Island (Lovers Key Resort) for those traveling to Fort Myers Beach and across the street from Black Island (Lovers Key Resort) for those traveling to Lovers Key and Bonita Springs. Travelers are asked to wait behind the concrete barrier until ready to board the trolley.
Estimated completion is summer 2026.
TRESPASSING INTO THE CONSTRUCTION SITE IS DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL. THIS INCLUDES THE BEACH AREA UNDER THE BRIDGE.
