Five things to know about Water Quality Information on the Town's refurbished website
|
|
|
|
An editorial published in a recent edition of The Sun Bay Paper has several incorrect statements/information about the Town’s water quality efforts. Below is correct information. 1. QR Codes on the Town’s beach access signs related to water quality are functioning and we regularly check them to make sure.
2. New signs are scheduled to be put up on the beach soon with the Town’s new logo and branding color scheme and those signs also have the QR codes for water quality.
3. Results of water quality testing (done by the Town’s agreement with Lee County) are on the Town’s refurbished website under the Water Quality tab accessible from the Popular Pages box on the homepage.
4. The specific water quality reports from Lee County are under the Environmental Lab section on Lee County's website. This link is also accessible from the Town's website under the Water Quality tab.
5. The Lee County Health Department is responsible for monitoring red tide and other possible water quality issues on Fort Myers Beach and notifying the public when necessary. Links to that information are also under the Water Quality tab on the Town’s website.

Mound House now part of "Museums for All"
This new partnership is part of the Mound House’s broad commitment to seek, include, and welcome all audiences. The Mound House has joined Museums for All to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. This is a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM).
The program supports those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits by providing free admission to the Mound House for up to four people, with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. Similar free and reduced admission is available to eligible members of the public at more than 500 museums across the country.

Volunteers needed for lead and copper water testing from their household tapsThe Town's Utilities Department is looking for volunteers to participate in the upcoming lead and copper sampling as required by the United State Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Lead and Copper Rule.
The Lead and Copper Rule, 40 C.F.R. Sections 141.80 to 141.91, requires monitoring at the consumer taps to identify levels of lead in drinking water that may result from corrosion of lead-bearing components in a public water system’s distribution system or in household plumbing. These samples help assess the need for, or the effectiveness of, corrosion control treatment.
Interested? Email fmbh2o@fmbgov.com to register. The Utilities Department is planning on collecting the required samples in July 2021. All participants will be contacted and provided with all supplies necessary for sample collection.
