Town, County receive $20 million
for several recovery projects on FMB
In notices received today, the Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM) and Director Kevin Guthrie announced that more than $20 million total has been awarded to the Town and the County for projects on Fort Myers Beach to help recover from the destruction that Hurricane Ian wreaked in September 2022.
“We are grateful to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the Florida Legislature, FDEM, Director Guthrie and Lee County for their support in our recovery from Hurricane Ian,” said Mayor Dan Allers. “This funding will help us continue the ongoing work to restore our Town’s natural and physical assets.”
Specifically, the funding includes:
- $8 million grant for beach renourishment
- $5 million, 0% loan following Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) projects
- $7.76 million to Lee County for sea turtle lighting on Estero Boulevard (Lee County owns Estero Boulevard)
