The Citizens Academy provides the opportunity for residents to learn about how all aspects of Town Government work in Fort Myers Beach.
At the first session, participants learned about the various services and functions provided by the Town and its six uniquely different departments. Also part of this session were presentations from representatives of the Lee County Sheriff’s office, the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District, and the Fort Myers Beach Library.
The second session featured tours and talks by Lee County Parks and Recreation staff members at Bowditch Point Park, Lynn Hall Park and Matanzas Pass Preserve. This session also included a quick stop at the historic cottage that is home to the Estero Island Historic Society for a briefing by members.
The last session included tours and talks by Town staff at Bay Oaks Recreational Campus, the Fort Myers Beach Community Pool, Mound House, Newton Beach Park, and the office of Matanzas Pass Mooring Field. This session culminated in an afternoon boat tour through Matanzas Harbor and Pass and the Gulf of Mexico.
Congratulations and thanks to the Inaugural Academy's participants!
