Fort Myers Beach MERTF Advisory Committee presents the December MERTF Award!

In December 2024, the Marine Environmental Resource Task Force (MERTF) Advisory Committee for the Town of Fort Myers Beach selected Bill and Will Perry, along with Chris and Ginger Weber, as winners of the MERTF Award! This award is given to individuals who promote good environmental stewardship on Fort Myers Beach.

Both the Perry’s and the Weber’s own and operate family run businesses and have been on Fort Myers Beach for decades, ensuring our beaches are clean and free of debris. They are also acknowledged by FWC as stewards of the environment.

Will Perry along with Chris and Ginger Weber were identified as “Beach Hero’s” by the FWC in recent newsletters for their work identifying nesting birds, alerting FWC personnel, and helping stake nests! Both parties are working toward becoming approved Shorebird Monitors!

In presenting these awards, the MERTF committee acknowledges their dedication to wildlife and ongoing stewardship toward the beaches of our island.

Congratulations Bill and Will Perry and Chris and Ginger Webber!

A statement from Town Manager, Andrew Hyatt

I am proud of the team I have assembled to help the Town recover. They have done a remarkable job in a very complicated situation. After much consideration and discussion with my wife, being faced with the opportunity of extending my contract for another one to two years, I have decided to decline a contract extension and fulfill the remainder of my contract which expires April 30, 2025.

I want to thank the Town Council as well as the many residents who have supported me since I arrived in Fort Myers Beach. I especially want to thank staff for all they have done to help Fort Myers Beach recover from the devastating hurricane.
