Monday, March 4 - DAY 1 - Know Your HazardDid you know the Town of Fort Myers Beach is prone to some amount of flooding from excessive rainfall and tidal influences. Tuesday, March 5 - DAY 2 - Flood InsuranceFlood insurance is available to everyone, regardless of whether you rent, own or have a business, and is available even if you are not in a mapped floodplain. Flood insurance is not included in your property insurance policy. For more information visit fema.gov/national-flood-insurance-program. Wednesday, March 6 - DAY 3 - Protect YourselfStay safe. Intense or excessive rainfall can overtop canals and ditches, flooding streets. Remember to turn around, don’t drown, as driving in flooded streets can stall your car and cause wave action to further flood structures along the road. Thursday, March 7 - DAY 4 - Protect Your PropertyProtect your property from flood hazards. Insurance is your first level of protection. Other methods include installing flood vents where appropriate or raising electrical system components. Before you build, find out what the regulations are and what permits are required. The Town of Fort Myers Beach has submitted a grant application in the amount of $1,745,700.00 to the Lee County Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Recovery & Resiliency Planning Program.This program is part of the overall U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding award to Lee County to support long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian. The Town of Fort Myers Beach is seeking CDBG-DR funding through the Lee County Recovery and Resiliency Planning Program to support critically necessary island-wide recovery and resilience planning initiatives. The Town seeks to fill a need to modernize comprehensive and actionable recovery plans to guide the Town’s implementation of its recovery strategy, fully considering unmet needs, mitigation best practices, and sustainability. The Recovery & Resiliency Planning Program is a competitive process for planning. Plans must benefit programs, services, or communities in Lee County. Lee County Domestic Animal Services invites you to celebrate “St. Pawtrick’s Day” throughout the entire month of March with reduced adoption fees. All dog adoptions are just $20 and cats/kittens $30 with an approved application.The adoption package includes spay or neuter, microchip, up-to-date vaccinations, county license and a 10-day health guarantee. That is a $600 package. A team of staff and volunteers are waiting to introduce a new four-legged family members. Stop by the adoption center Monday through Saturday between 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The shelter, located at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, is open for adoptions Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers are available to help adopters select the pet that is best suited for their lifestyle and family. Only manual bikes can share the sidewalks and beach with pedestrians.Per Ordinance 22-04, Electric Bikes, Scooters, Skateboards are prohibited on any public sidewalk, path, or beach. Electric bikes can ONLY be used on the road in the bike lane, not on the beach or sidewalks.
