Fright Night at Bay Oaks returned last Friday with a new twistOne of the Town's beloved traditions to celebrate Halloween returned last Friday after a year off due to the COVID pandemic.
For the first time, the event was held outside on the Bay Oaks grounds. Estimates are that about 550 adults and children were in attendance!
Blow up games such as a maze, an obstacle course, a slide, and football, baseball and basketball tosses were enjoyed by all along with food trucks, a haunted trail, and a costume contest.
The Fort Myers Beach Fire District was front and center with trucks and personnel. Oh yeah, and there was lots of candy!
Shoutout to the Bay Oaks staff and Town advisory board members and volunteers for their hard work in coordinating this fun event. Especially thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered and/or donated candy.
Special thanks to Nathan Mayberg, Editor of the Fort Myers Beach Observer, who attended the event and snapped some great photos. See some here

Last chance to take the survey to provide input on the 2022 Leadership Conference Plans for the Town's next leadership conference to educate interested community members about Town government and services are underway and your input is needed. When these conferences have been held in the past (the last one was in 2019) they received rave reviews. Participants get a behind-the-scenes look at how the Town serves residents, visitors, and businesses, and how Town government works. Past participants had this to say: - "I liked the special tours at all of the stops on the field trips. I had been to all of the places except the historical cottage and yet I learned so much at each stop."
- "The variety and breadth of experiences provides a superb overview of what FMB has to offer."
- "The emphasis on how to access different services, individuals and locations was extremely helpful."
- "EVERYONE on FMB should take this conference!"
- "It really instilled a feeling of pride for our community and a desire to be a good steward of our island."
Tentative plans are for the 2022 conference to have four to six sessions. Participants will be introduced to Town Councilors and staff, departments and committees, facilities, services, and functions.
Field trips to locations that the Town operates - Bay Oaks Recreational Campus, Mound House, Newton Beach Park, Mooring Field, Bayside Park - as well as sessions about emergency services and environmental services are planned.
Thanks for taking the survey! Watch for more details about the conference (and how to sign up!) in the months ahead.

National Planning Month and World Town Planning Day
|
|
|
|
October is National Planning Month when the American Planning Association (APA) sets aside time to "celebrate the role that planning plays in creating great communities." World Town Planning Day is November 8 this year and is a day when 30 countries in four continents promote the role of planning in creating livable communities.
We want to take these opportunities to thank the community residents who give their time and energy to serve on the Town’s Local Planning Agency (LPA). The LPA is an advisory board to Town Council to help preserve the unique, natural, and historic characteristics of Estero Island.
Megan Heil, Chair Jane Plummer, Vice Chair Forrest Critser Anita Cereceda Scott M. Safford Patrick Vanasse Karen Woodson
Jason Green, Community Development Director, Carl Benge, Assistant Community Development Director, and Sarah Probst, Planner, are the staff liaisons to the LPA.
Thanks for everything you do to make and keep #FMBeautiful!
