UPDATED Friday, September 23, 2022 / 4:25 p.m.
Based on an extended seven-day forecast, Tropical Storm 9 that is currently heading toward Cuba has the potential to become a hurricane and make landfall in or near our area next week, possibly on Tuesday and Wednesday (September 27 and 28.)
Your town staff has vast experience with preparation and response to more than a dozen storms. Town staff are currently implementing precautionary measures to prepare Town facilities and operations to weather the storm safely if it does arrive. We are encouraging all Fort Myers Beach residents to take time this weekend to make sure their properties and families are adequately prepared.
Plan and prepare for being on your own for at least 72 hours after a storm passes, especially with water and medicine. Also, please make sure to secure any loose items in your yard and/or on your patio so that they cannot blow around during the storm and hurt people or property. Now is NOT the time to trim vegetation or stack debris for pickup.
If you live in a home with a high risk of flooding (ground level) or damage (mobile/manufactured) it is recommended that you implement a plan to ride out the storm in an elevated, secure, off-island structure.
For resources to help prepare and stay updated, visit the Town’s emergency preparedness webpage.
In partnership with Lee County, we will be sharing at least daily appropriate updates and Town-specific information in these ways:
- Homepage of www.fmbgov.com
- Text and email notifications to those who have signed themselves up to receive them: sign up
- Social media – Facebook and Twitter
- Local news sources
Immediately after a storm passes, Town Public Works and Utilities crews in coordination with the FMB Fire Control District and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office will evaluate the condition of streets, electric lines, and water and stormwater systems. We respectfully ask that everyone stay off the Town’s streets and Estero Boulevard during this time to give these crews space to ensure that these areas are clear and safe.
