[ARCHIVED] First turtle nest this season has hatched!

turtle nest dig sept 11 (16)

The first sea turtle nest of the season has hatched on Fort Myers Beach!

The tracks in the sand from the nest to the Gulf show us that hatchlings made their way safely.  We have 82 nests on the beach that will be hatching over the next few months.
Please continue to do your part to keep the way clear for hatchlings to have a safe passage when they come out of the nest.
  • Fill in holes in the sand to keep hatchlings from falling in and getting stuck.
  • Pick up all your belongings and take them with you to keep hatchlings from getting disoriented trying to get around your stuff.
  • Close your blinds before dusk and use only turtle safe lighting around your property to keep hatchlings from going toward lights that are in the opposite direction of the Gulf.
  • Avoid using flashlights on the Beach.
Thanks to Eve at Turtle Time for the pictures and status!
