***UPDATE***Hurricane Idalia aftermath: Current things to know***
Wednesday, August 30, 2023 – 1:15 PM
Tropical Storm/Hurricane Idalia impacted the Town overnight with high winds, rain, some storm surge, and localized flooding. Here are the current things to know about the Town’s recovery.
1)
It is still very windy and waves from the Gulf are starting to overrun the beach and spill out onto Estero Boulevard in some places, especially on North Estero. High Tide is occurring this afternoon and the overrun of water from the Gulf is expected to increase because of this.
2) The Downtown District around Crescent and First Street is also experiencing high water which will likely increase with High Tide.
3) Beach-walking is not recommended this afternoon because the water is high, the waves are rough, and the Lee County Health Department has issued a precautionary advisory about possible bacteria in the water due to the storm. In addition, the berm sand is very soft and it would be easy to sink into it.
4) Lee County Waste Management will perform regular trash pickups on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
