On June 20, 2023, the Lee Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 23-06-33. This resolution outlines a plan for an 8% annual increase in rates across all Lee County Utility (LCU) services over the next five years, starting from July 1, 2023. Notably, residents of the Town who benefit from LCU's wastewater services will continue to be billed for these services by the Town's Utilities Department.
For customers residing in Fort Myers Beach, the proposed rate adjustments are slated for discussion during the Commissioner's upcoming meeting on Aug. 15, 2023. This meeting is scheduled to take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Commissioner's Chambers, located at 2120 Main Street in Fort Myers. Those wishing to voice their opinions before the Board are advised to complete a Public Comment Card, available on the table outside the Chamber entrance. These completed cards should be returned to the County staff table located on the right side of the podium before the meeting commencement.
It's important to note that if there are no individuals who express an interest in discussing the wastewater rates concerning Fort Myers Beach customers through the submission of a Public Comment Card before the meeting, the Lee County Commission is likely to incorporate the item into the Consent Agenda. As a result, there won't be an opportunity for the public to offer their insights on this particular matter.
In the event that the Lee County Commission gives its approval to the rates proposal, the rate adjustment for wastewater services will become effective for Town property owners starting September 1, 2023.
