The Town's annual July 4 fireworks display will not occur this year due to continuing recovery from Hurricane Ian.
Per Town Ordinance personal displays of fireworks are not permitted anywhere in the Town, including the beach.
Sec. 18-30, (b) Fireworks and explosives. No person shall bring, possess, set off, or otherwise cause to explode or discharge or burn, any firecrackers, torpedo, rocket, or other fireworks or explosives of inflammable material, or discharge them or throw them into any such area from land or highways adjacent thereto. This prohibition includes any substance, compound, mixture, or article that in conjunction with any other substance or compound would be dangerous from any of the foregoing standpoints.
This is particularly important where the protected shorebirds are nesting from Flamingo to the south end of the island. Snowy Plover chicks that are running around now are highly vulnerable to human disturbance.
